The Empire Strikes Back - Hoth Expansion for Star Wars Galaxies in development.


We recently revealed that Game Trailers would be making some big Star Wars game announcements - we can reveal today, what one of them is - exclusively! To celebrate it's 5th year, Star Wars Galaxies will be bringing content that the player base has been demanding since 2003 - Hoth! However, unlike some of the current worlds, Hoth will be purely pvp based as the Galactic Civil War reaches new heights.

Depending on your faction, you either have to defend Hoth or attack it (as the Empire of course!) The developers tell us 'we aim to bring an entire new experience of pvp to Galaxies', explains lead designer on this project Niklas "Swede" Johansson. 'Players have been crying out for this iconic planet and we aim to deliver, what we hope, will be the best update ever delivered'.

In addition to the planet, players will be able to take the combat in to space - attacking Star Destroyers and TIE Fighters. Although the Destroyers will be NPC controlled - they are set to blockade the planet. Rumours have it, that Rebels can enter a new instance that allows players to defend a Rebel transporter against a blocking Star Destroyer. By feeding co-ordinates back to base, ION CANNON will fire some shots to disable the Destroyer - just like in the movie. However, if the player fails, the mission fails.

There is no word yet if Hoth will be a free update or a paid for expansion and details on rewards are also under wraps right now - but we are working flat out to bring you a special Videocast for tomorrow. So stay tuned!

We can reveal that there will be some new creatures to kill, harvest, providing high end stats. However, you won't be able to mine on the planet or space. A new 'Ice Kimo Dragon' will provide some bite on the ice surface. Enjoy these concept art pics provided to us by LucasArts.
