Player of the Year
June 29, 2007 [DarthMaulUK]

June 27, 2007 – July 6, 2007

That time of year is almost here…

The time when SOE players from near and far gather in one place to celebrate their favorite MMOs by engaging in fun, food and fraternization! But this year, there will be some that walk among the crowd… a few players so respected by their gaming peers that they will have the distinct honor of being crowned SOE’s first annual Players of the Year!

Will you be one of them?

To celebrate the 2007 Las Vegas Fan Faire (Aug. 2-5), Sony Online Entertainment will select and bring four lucky players to the Rio Hotel to join in the festivities. So, here’s your chance to nominate a friend (or even yourself) for this coveted title! We want to know who YOU think is the most deserving and why.

From Wednesday, June 27, 2007, (12:01 am, US Pacific Time) through Friday, July 6, 2007 at (11:59 pm, US Pacific Time), Sony Online Entertainment will be hosting the Official Fan Faire "Players of the Year" contest. Participating games include EverQuest, EverQuest II, Star Wars Galaxies, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, EverQuest Online Adventures, The Matrix Online and PlanetSide.

Good luck to everyone and we hope to see you all in Las Vegas for Fan Faire!

Contest:

Do you know someone who is the poster child for your MMO? Someone so dedicated that they walk around bloodshot and sleep deprived in their favorite wrinkled gaming T-shirts and baseball caps (what else would they be wearing?). Someone who goes so above and beyond the call of duty helping other community members in-game, out-of-game and everywhere in-between that they’re practically an online Mother Theresa? Well, they just might be the perfect candidate for SOE Player of the Year and we want to know more about them!

Nominate a fellow player (or yourself) by writing a 200 word (or less) letter or roleplay story explaining why the person deserves to be an SOE Player of the Year. Optional - you can also include a link to an image (screen capture, artwork, video or photo) with your entry as support for your story but please note that a written submission is still required.

Galactic Showcase 27/6/07
June 28, 2007 [DarthMaulUK]

Farla Swift and her friends recently created a spooky storyteller event on the Gorath galaxy. Their expertly created event chronicled the legacy of a name from the past that still whispered to this day: Revan.

Story Background

Thousands of years ago, a Jedi Knight known as Revan once wandered both sides of the Force. It is said that on his journeys he created two artifacts, holocrons of special power, for posterity - one for the light and one for the darkness.

Striving to claim his secrets, the Emperor's scourges followed Revan's trail to Dathomir and a clan of native witches who called themselves the Nightsisters.

New SWG Community Manager joins
June 27, 2007 [DarthMaulUK]

A new Community Manager has joined the friendly team at SWG. GreyPawn as he is known on the forums has just posted an introduction to himself on the official forums.

Greetings Friends!

Pleased to make your acquaintance! My name is Joe Pishgar, but most folks online call me by my nickname, GreyPawn.

I worked for many years running live events in Ultima Online as a Seer and later as Event Moderator for OSI/EA, and soon jumped into the online gaming industry as the Community Manager for Big Huge Games. It is my hope that my knowledge and experience as a player and a developer in a wide variety of online games will help me to best represent you and your concerns to the development team.

I am thrilled and excited to be back in the heart of an MMO community again, especially Star Wars Galaxies! I've never really had the chance to explore the world of SWG until now, and I'm already having wonderful fun with my level 8 Jedi. Although a SWG newbie, I can't wait to see what adventures lay ahead for my character. I've personally been an avid Star Wars fanatic as long as I can remember (cardboard tube light saber fight anyone?), and I'm really looking forward to getting things movin' in the SWG community.

We'll be talking again over the next few days as I get settled in, and I am really looking forward to hearing all that you have to tell me.

Joe "GreyPawn" Pishgar
Community Manager, Star Wars Galaxies
Sony Online Entertainment

Also, Kelly “Valara” Knox has joined the community team for Galaxies and is currently playing the game since launch as a tailor!

Hi everyone!

I’m also glad to meet you! My name is Kelly “Valara” Knox, and I’m a Senior Community Relations Representative. I’ve been on the community relations team here at SOE for a short time now, and I’ve been in the MMORPG industry for a few years.

I started playing Star Wars Galaxies at launch and I play an Elder Tailor. I’m enjoying playing my entertainer as well, and both of my characters have been having fun looking for more houses to blow up. I’m also enjoying annoying Virrago when I have the chance. I’m very excited to be a part of the SWG team!

I’ll be staying more behind the scenes than GreyPawn and Virrago so you won’t see me posting often, but you will see me pop on the board to post information here and there.

See you around the board, and happy anniversary!
